Profile Abbreviations broken?

I know everyone is well aware of drawing settings in Civil 3D. And in those settings is a tab for various abbreviations used throughout Civil3D. That dialog box looks like this:

Default Drawing Settings

If you collapse all of the headings, the very last group is for profile label abbreviations. Yeah, yeah, get to the point.

They don’t work.

See, be careful of what you wish for.  All other properties work in each group except for PROFILE.  Wait a minute… Civil 3D has been out awhile and so has abbreviations. This can’t be right, could it? So here’s the details….

I sent a chronicle to Almas over at Autodesk Civil 3D support to get confirmation I wasn’t loosing my mind. If you look into any profile label style referencing vertical geometry in the out of the box supplied template , the abbreviations are all hand entered; ALL OF THEM.

What does this mean? That either firms use those out of the box abbreviations OR they don’t use that feature at all. I tried looking through the discussion groups quickly, but came up empty for any help with this matter. Maybe you have come across this and just let it go? The good news is that this is on the development teams radar. No indication though of when a resolution may come…

The key part of this article is simply to be informed and react accordingly until it is resolved!
