Revision Clouds in AutoCAD

Greetings everyone.  Hope you enjoy your Holiday.  After having my head down in Revit for the better part of 6 months, I soon realized that I haven’t had much to say about Civil 3D or Engineering at the moment.  No worries, I am sure that will change in due time.  What is common to both Revit and Civil 3D is the need to document changes with Revision Clouds.

When submitting revised drawings to agencies, it is often desired if not required to indicate on each sheet what has changed with a revision cloud. Within AutoCAD and its vertical applications, some folks have struggled a bit because the intuitive workflow would suggest to simply sketch the cloud using the mouse. This has varying results as we’ll see.

What’s important in any case is the minimum and maximum arc size. This should be in the .5 to .75 range depending on preference.

The following video will show options and results of various methods when creating said clouds.

Oh, don’t forget to make it completely clear that the cloud is NOT part of the design.
