BEST PRACTICE: Delaware updates Soil Survey online!

Delaware has now updated their soil surveys AND that data is now online as well! The online service actually covers the entire US (There are a handful of counties that aren’t delineated as of today. But those are remote, undeveloped regions.) and displays the most current data. Granted the most current data may be from 1970.  🙂

But i digress. If you want to find out the information on the source of the data, you need to follow the steps on the front page on how to establish an “Area of Interest.” Once you do that, click on the “Soil Data Explorer”. On the left will be an index of available information. Open the “AOI Inventory” (Click the down arrow) and then click “Survey Area Data Summary” and then the “View Soil Report” button. The information will then be displayed below the map.

To cite the online soil survey, the following format is suggested:

Soil Survey Staff, Natural Resources Conservation Service, United States Department of Agriculture. Web Soil Survey. Available online at accessed [month/day/year].
