Internet to the rescue!

This week, I’m sharing some new web sites I’ve found that can replace those app’s you only have 1 license and can’t afford more!  With these app’s, not only can you be more efficient, but you can do it without spending money. Now who doesn’t like that?

What are they and why would I use them? Let’s see, civil engineer’s jobs range from solving trigonometry (existing property line conditions) to presentations of designs doing your best Photoshop work. Read on to find out….

First up, www.pixlr.com.  It is a flash based image editor along the lines of Photoshop Express. Familiar tools and interface should make anyone who’s done image editing in the past feel right at home.  The app is stuck in your browser and can only save to either jpg or png file formats to your hard drive.  But aside from that, it’s hard to beat free.  It’s in a public beta mode right now so functions and features should continue to improve.

Second, we have www.mathway.com. It’s a web based math calculator that solves math problems ranging from basic math to calculus. In addition to to the solution, you also get step by step directions to solve the problem. Very handy for those parcel geometry problems. It can also graph those solutions as well. Add in a handy glossary to help out with terms you have only remembered when you had hair, and you’re good to go!
