Autodesk Vault 2008 much improved!

OK, so those of you using or contemplating Civil 3D in a team/project sharing environment are dreading the Vault and what it means.  Either because of the dire things written in the dicussion groups or just the general fear factor of invading Application Engineer’s taking over your office.  Nothing to fear good soldier, read on for the good news!

So what’s new and why is it simpler to use? Check this out….

  • New Name – Autodesk Data Management Server or ADMS for short.  Hey, everything else got a name makeover why not the ubiquitus Vault?
  • Web Services don’t need to be stopped for maintenance!  No more need to stop the service to do a backup.  (I think i hear John P screaming for joy?)
  • ADMS can now manage multiple remote sites.  This mean  you can enable/disable a particular vault, replicate a vault to a remote site and delete a site altogether. Although, you do need to get Productstream Replicator to implement this aspect.
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express is now the default install database server.  This is just a great move on too many fronts to mention.

OK…  I need to march on, but wanted to drop a note so you knew I was still here!

 Enjoy!
